Grab your gas mask and your favorite flashlight, because the Moscow metro has never looked this good. The free Metro Redux Next-Gen Update went live on PC on October 22, 2026, giving Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux a serious modern makeover. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series versions follow on October 29, and existing owners do not pay a cent. It is the perfect excuse to revisit the tunnels before Metro 2039 arrives on February 4, 2027.

  • Price: free for existing owners of Metro 2033 Redux and Metro Last Light Redux, including PS4 and Xbox One owners upgrading
  • PC (live October 22): uncapped frame rates, DLSS, FSR and 4A TSR upscaling, 4K textures and spatial audio
  • Consoles (October 29): true 4K at 60 fps or upscaled 4K at 120 fps, plus PSSR on PS5 Pro
  • Bonus: linking a Deep Silver Account unlocks an exclusive digital comic book

What Does the Metro Redux Next-Gen Update Add on PC?

Deep Silver and 4A Games published a hefty patch list for PC on Steam, Epic and GOG. Frame rates are now unbound, depending on your hardware, with upscaling options for every GPU: 4A TSR for anyone, DLSS for NVIDIA and FSR for AMD. Visually you get screen-space global illumination, increased geometry and texture detail, 4K texture support, improved PBR materials and better animation quality. Your ears get an upgrade too, with spatial audio and improved sound quality.

Controller fans are covered with DualSense adaptive triggers and Xbox impulse triggers, and there is a Power Optimized mode for Xbox Ally handhelds and the Microsoft Store version. A follow-up hotfix on October 23 already addressed early reports, fixing high-resolution detection, the Steam Overlay and Epic Games Store achievements.

Which Community Bugs Did 4A Games Fix?

This is where the update really shows love for longtime players. The studio worked through a long list of community-reported issues, improving stability on modern Windows 11 PCs, AMD GPUs and high-refresh displays. It fixed freezes at splash screens and during chapter loads, the endless-reload weapon bug, and enemies spotting you through walls. Save reliability got a big boost too: Steam Cloud uploads work again, and the game no longer creates a checkpoint when you are nearly out of gas mask filters, which used to trap unlucky players in a death loop. Advanced PhysX is now enabled by default on PC as well.

When Does Metro Redux Come to PS5 and Xbox Series?

Console players get their native versions on October 29. According to Gematsu, the update adds native support for PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X and S, with true 4K at 60 frames per second and upscaled 4K at 120 frames per second on capable displays. PS5 Pro gets PSSR upscaling, Xbox gains spatial audio, and both platforms get improved lighting, shadows, particles and hardware tessellation. Xbox Play Anywhere and handheld support mean your survival run can follow you around.

Deep Silver is careful to note this is not a full remaster or remake. The original Redux look and feel are preserved, just polished for current hardware, much like other free remaster upgrades that have breathed new life into classics.

Why Now Is the Time to Revisit Metro

With Metro 2039 on the horizon, Deep Silver is giving the community a beautiful on-ramp. Link your Deep Silver Account to unlock the exclusive comic, and each linked game also earns an entry into a competition to win a copy of Metro 2039. For a series that has drawn 50 million players, according to Deep Silver, it is a classy thank-you.
