Just in time for spooky season, the lamb has a new home. Cult of the Lamb: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launched on the Nintendo eShop on October 22, 2026, and the best part is the price for existing fans: it is a free upgrade for anyone who owns the original Switch version. Developer Massive Monster and publisher Devolver Digital are giving one of the most charming roguelikes of the decade a proper current-generation Nintendo release.

  • Release date: October 22, 2026, on the Nintendo eShop
  • Upgrade cost: free for owners of the Nintendo Switch version
  • New buyers: $24.99, the same price as the Switch version, per Siliconera
  • Other platforms: already available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, PC and Apple Arcade

What Is Cult of the Lamb?

If you missed it the first time, Cult of the Lamb casts you as a possessed lamb saved from annihilation by a mysterious stranger. To repay the debt, you build a loyal following of woodland worshippers. The game splits its time between two loops: real-time dungeon crawling through randomized regions, and base management where you construct buildings, gather resources, perform rituals and give sermons to keep your flock's faith high.

That cute-meets-creepy mix is a big part of the appeal. It is a roguelike you can play in short bursts, with a cozy colony sim waiting between runs.

Is the Cult of the Lamb Switch 2 Upgrade Free?

Yes. Gematsu and Siliconera both confirm the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a free upgrade for existing Switch owners, and Siliconera reports there is no extra upgrade pack fee. New players pay $24.99 for the base game, matching the Switch price.

If you want everything in one go, Siliconera notes the $59.99 The One Who Waits Edition bundles the base game with the Woolhaven expansion and the Cultist, Heretic, Sinful and Pilgrim packs. Woolhaven, released earlier in 2026, also sells on its own for $16.99.

What Should Switch 2 Players Expect?

Massive Monster's announcement focused on the date and the free upgrade rather than a technical spec sheet, so exact resolution and frame rate targets were not detailed at launch. KitGuru points out that the original Switch release launched locked to 30fps, later gained a 60fps performance mode, and that the Switch 2's much stronger hardware gives the game plenty of headroom. Treat higher resolution and smoother performance as the expectation rather than a published promise, and look for hands-on impressions over the coming days.

The upgrade path is also good news for anyone who bought the game on Switch years ago. You keep your purchase, move to the new console and get the improved version without paying twice. It follows a welcome pattern we have seen across recent ports, including Coral Island's Switch 2 update.

Why This Is a Good Week to Start a Cult

With Halloween around the corner, Cult of the Lamb's spooky-cute style fits the season perfectly, and a free upgrade removes any barrier for returning players. Newcomers get one of the most distinctive indie games of the past few years on a console that should run it better than ever.
