Grab your shovel, because the Game Boy library on Nintendo Switch Online is getting deeper. Nintendo has confirmed that three more classics, Mole Mania, Avenging Spirit and Pinball: Revenge of the 'Gator, arrive in the Game Boy Nintendo Classics app on October 27, 2026. One is a puzzle gem produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, one is a cult-favorite ghost platformer, and one is the pinball game that paved the way for a Kirby spin-off. That is a seriously fun trio for a single drop.

  • Release date: October 27, 2026, in the Game Boy Nintendo Classics app on Switch and Switch 2
  • The lineup: Mole Mania (1997), Avenging Spirit (1992) and Pinball: Revenge of the 'Gator
  • Library size: the Game Boy and Game Boy Color collection reaches 49 games, plus four Japan-only titles, per VGC
  • Price: VGC notes Game Boy titles are part of the standard Switch Online plan, which costs $3.99 a month or $19.99 a year

What Is Mole Mania?

Mole Mania is the headliner for retro fans. Released in 1997 and produced by Shigeru Miyamoto, it stars Muddy, a mole on a mission to rescue his wife Maggie and their seven children from a grumpy farmer named Jinbe. The game spans seven mazes, each built from grid-based stages with two layers: the surface and the tunnels underneath. Muddy can dig between them at will, which turns every screen into a clever two-floor puzzle.

It never got the spotlight of Nintendo's bigger Game Boy hits, so Switch Online is a great second chance for a game that reads like a hidden Zelda-style puzzle box. If you enjoyed digging through classics on Nintendo's service before, as with our look at Super Mario Sunshine joining Switch Online's GameCube library, this is a great one to queue up.

What Is Avenging Spirit?

Avenging Spirit is a 1992 side-scrolling platformer from Jaleco with a wonderfully weird hook: you start the game already dead. As a ghost, your hero must rescue his girlfriend, Gennifer, from a crime syndicate, and he does it by possessing enemies and borrowing their abilities. Every foe becomes a potential power-up, which keeps the action surprising from level to level. It is the kind of inventive early-90s design that still feels fresh today.

Why Revenge of the 'Gator Matters for Kirby Fans

The third game is Revenge of the 'Gator, a pinball title developed by HAL Laboratory. VGC notes it served as the inspiration for HAL's later Kirby's Pinball Land. Its Japanese title translates to Pinball: The Great 66-Alligator Parade, a cheeky promise of how many toothy critters are hiding on the table. Pinball on a handheld is pure pick-up-and-play comfort, which makes it perfect for quick sessions on Switch 2 in handheld mode.

How Do You Play Game Boy Games on Switch Online?

The games live in the Game Boy Nintendo Classics app, available on both Switch and Switch 2. According to VGC, NES, SNES, Game Boy and Game Boy Color games are included with a standard Switch Online membership, which costs $3.99 for one month, $7.99 for three months or $19.99 for a year. The Expansion Pack add-on, at $49.99 a year, is needed for Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance and Sega Mega Drive games, plus GameCube on Switch 2.

Three classics from three different studios in one update is a lovely reminder of how varied the Game Boy era was. Mark October 27 on your calendar, and keep up with more retro releases in our gaming coverage.
