SoFi and Kraken Connect 24/7 Dollar Settlement Rails
SoFi and Kraken owner Payward linked SEN to Kraken Prime, adding 24/7 dollar settlement and a SoFiUSD listing for institutional clients on both networks.
Banking Rails Meet Exchange Rails
SoFi Technologies and Payward, Kraken's parent company, announced a partnership on September 3, 2026 that connects SoFi's settlement network to Kraken's digital asset infrastructure. The mechanics are simpler than the category language suggests: Payward joins the SoFi Exchange Network, SoFi's dollar stablecoin gets listed on Kraken, and Kraken Prime becomes an additional liquidity source behind SoFi's crypto offering.
- Network access: Payward joins the SoFi Exchange Network, which SoFi launched in April 2026 alongside its Big Business Banking offering
- Listing: SoFiUSD will be listed on Kraken's multi-asset trading platform
- Liquidity: Kraken Prime, one of the larger prime brokerages in the sector, becomes an additional liquidity source for SoFi's crypto products
- Settlement: institutional clients on both networks can settle US dollar transactions 24 hours a day, seven days a week
Why 24/7 Settlement Is the Actual Product
The interesting part is not the stablecoin listing. It is the clock.
Traditional dollar settlement runs on banking hours and banking days. Crypto markets do not. Any institution operating across both has spent years managing the seam — pre-funding accounts on Friday afternoon to cover a weekend, holding buffer balances that earn nothing, and eating the cost of capital sitting idle in the wrong place. SEN provides real-time dollar settlement around the clock, and connecting Kraken to those rails means institutional clients can move dollars and manage liquidity across both networks outside conventional banking hours.
That is a treasury efficiency story rather than a trading story, and treasury efficiency is usually where the durable value in this category actually sits. Payward Co-CEO David Ripley framed it as money and markets converging into a new paradigm with the infrastructure underneath needing to catch up.
What Kraken Has Been Building Toward
This fits a pattern Payward has been assembling for a couple of years. The company took a Federal Reserve master account for Kraken Financial in March 2026 and applied for a national trust company charter in May. It bought Bitnomial for $550 million in 2026 to build out a full US derivatives stack.
Each of those is a piece of the same project: becoming an institution that can hold, clear and settle rather than only match trades. Linking to a bank's settlement network is the logical next piece, and it is the one that is hardest to build alone.
Is SoFiUSD a Meaningful Stablecoin?
Honest answer: it is early. SoFiUSD is a bank-issued dollar token from a company with a real deposit franchise, which puts it in a different regulatory posture than most of the market, but a Kraken listing is a distribution milestone rather than a scale milestone. Volume will tell.
What makes it worth watching is the issuer profile. Bank-issued dollar tokens have been the fastest-moving segment of the stablecoin market this year — the 21-bank joint dollar stablecoin venture announced on September 1 is the clearest example. A token whose issuer also runs the settlement network it clears on is a tighter loop than most designs manage.

What Could Come Next
Both companies said the relationship could expand into payments, treasury, lending and other digital asset services over time. Read that as intent rather than roadmap — these announcements routinely list more than gets built.
The concrete thing shipping now is round-the-clock dollar movement between a bank network and an exchange network, for institutional clients. That is a narrow product with a specific customer, and it is the kind of plumbing that tends to matter more in retrospect than it does on announcement day. Our crypto coverage will follow whether the volume shows up.
