Two open-world action favorites are making their Nintendo debut. Publisher Aspyr launched Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition and Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 30, 2026, giving handheld players a way to take the Nemesis-system adventures on the go.

  • Shadow of Mordor GOTY is priced at $19.99 and Shadow of War Definitive at $49.99, with a $69.99 bundle, according to RPG Site.
  • This is the first time either game has appeared on Nintendo hardware.
  • Both editions include their previous DLC, from Lord of the Hunt and Bright Lord to Desolation of Mordor and Blade of Galadriel.
  • Shadow of War is a 73GB download and supports the Switch 2 touchscreen.

What do you get with the Switch 2 editions?

These are the complete packages. Shadow of Mordor GOTY bundles the base game with its story expansions, and Shadow of War Definitive collects the main campaign with all of its extra content. RPG Site reports that Shadow of War adds touchscreen support for the Switch 2, which suits menu navigation in a sprawling RPG with plenty of inventory and upgrade screens.

The pair are known for the Nemesis system, where enemy captains remember your encounters and rise through the ranks. Playing both in one handheld library means you can follow that idea from its original form through to the sequel's larger fortress battles.

How much do the Switch 2 versions cost?

According to RPG Site, Mordor GOTY is $19.99, Shadow of War Definitive is $49.99 and the two together come to $69.99. Coverage of the launch noted a 50 percent pre-order discount on the bundle, bringing it to $34.99, though that offer was tied to the pre-order window, so check the eShop for current pricing.

What about online features and file size?

RPG Site says Shadow of War is optimized for offline play, which means its online Conquests and Vendettas are not part of this version. The focus is on the single-player story and fortress battles, which are the heart of the game for most players. Shadow of War needs 73GB of storage, so a fast microSD Express card or plenty of internal space is a good idea before you buy.

Another strong week for Switch 2 ports

Switch 2 has been collecting big library additions, including Oblivion Remastered with every DLC and Final Fantasy XIV with all expansions. Adding two more deep, long-form RPGs continues the trend of console-class games becoming portable. Browse more releases in our gaming coverage.
