Eight years. That is how long fans have been staring at one mountain-and-coast teaser and arguing about a map. On November 3, 2026, Bethesda Game Studios finally gave The Elder Scrolls 6 an official name: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. It is a small announcement in terms of information and an enormous one in terms of group chats.

  • Official title: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.
  • Where it was revealed: the close of a video celebrating 40 years of Bethesda Game Studios.
  • Still unannounced: release date, gameplay and platforms.
  • Next update: Bethesda says it will be some time before it shares more.

How Bethesda Revealed Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel

The title arrived at the end of the anniversary video, in true "one more thing" fashion. As VGC reports, executive producer Todd Howard reflected on the studio's history while walking past a case of its games, then acknowledged that everyone keeps asking about the sequel. He called the anniversary "a perfect time" to share what it is actually called, and the video cut to the logo. Xbox Wire and Gematsu have both posted the reveal.

That is the full extent of what is confirmed. No trailer footage of the game, no world details, no window. Bethesda was upfront about this, saying more will take a while. Honestly? After this long, I respect a studio that says "not yet" instead of serving up a fake-out sizzle reel.

Where Is The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel Set?

Bethesda has not said. But the name is doing a lot of heavy lifting for one popular theory. In Elder Scrolls lore, Sentinel is a region in Hammerfell, and VGC notes the title lends more credibility to reports that the game is set there. Fans have also long pointed to Iliac Bay, the body of water between High Rock and Hammerfell.

Treat this as an educated guess rather than a fact. The name had already circulated widely through rumors, and The Verge reported last week that a confirmation could come as soon as this month. Hammerfell itself would be familiar ground for long-time players: it appears in Daggerfall, The Elder Scrolls Online and the 1998 adventure Redguard. Former Bethesda designer Bruce Nesmith, who led design on Skyrim, has said he hopes the theories are true because of what that could mean for boats and water exploration. Sailing in a Bethesda RPG? My calendar is cleared, and my inventory is already over-encumbered with cheese wheels.

When Will Elder Scrolls 6 Come Out?

No date has been announced, and nothing in the reveal suggests one is close. Howard's comments also pointed to the studio's other big priorities, naming the Fallout franchise alongside The Elder Scrolls. Fallout has plenty going on, as our report on the Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters shows, so patience remains the correct build for this playthrough.

Platforms are unconfirmed too, so it is too early to plan a hardware purchase around Sentinel. Microsoft owns Bethesda, and the reveal ran on Xbox Wire, but that is not a platform announcement. Bethesda's recent history is also more multiplatform than it used to be, as Starfield's PS5 launch demonstrated.

Why Does a Name Reveal Matter So Much?

Because it signals that a very long wait is moving forward. A title gives fans something concrete to rally around, and it gives the studio a marketing anchor for whenever it is ready to show the game. The timing also works nicely: this month marks the 15th anniversary of Skyrim, a game many people are still playing, modding and buying for the seventh time.

Now we wait, again, but with a much better forum title. Keep an eye on our gaming coverage for news as Bethesda shares more.
