Raspberry Pi CM5 Mini PC Runs OpenClaw Agents Locally

There is a specific kind of satisfaction in watching an AI agent do useful work on hardware you can pick up with one hand. EDATEC's new ED-CLAWBOX aims squarely at that feeling: it is a Raspberry Pi CM5 mini PC built specifically for running OpenClaw agent workloads on your own desk instead of somebody else's data center.

What Makes the ED-CLAWBOX Different From Other CM5 Carriers

We have covered a lot of Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 hardware this year, and most of it is a carrier board looking for a job. The RAK7392 edge router build is a good example of the pattern: excellent silicon, general-purpose framing. The ED-CLAWBOX inverts that. It ships as a finished desktop appliance with 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS Desktop already loaded and an open-source web management environment called JishuShell preinstalled to handle agent setup.

That software choice is the actual product. Standing up a local agent stack normally means an evening of container wrangling before you get to anything interesting. Shipping the management layer in the box turns that into a browser tab.

Is 4GB of RAM Enough for Local AI Agents?

Honest answer: it depends entirely on where the model lives. With 4GB of LPDDR4 and an Arm Cortex-A76 cluster, this is not a machine for hosting a large language model locally — a dedicated mini PC for local LLMs with 32GB or more is still the right tool for that job.

What the ED-CLAWBOX is sized for is the orchestration layer: the agent runtime, the tool calls, the scheduling, the local file and network access, and the credentials you would rather not hand to a cloud host. OpenClaw's rise as an open-source AI agent has made that split increasingly common — keep the agent local and private, point it at whichever model endpoint makes sense. On a 12W box running silently in a cupboard, that is a genuinely appealing arrangement.

Ports and Expansion

EDATEC did not skimp on I/O for the size. You get gigabit Ethernet, dual-band Wi-Fi with Bluetooth, two USB 3.0 Type-A ports plus one USB 2.0, and two 4K60-capable HDMI outputs — one full-size Type-A and one Micro. There is a 3.5mm audio jack, two integrated 0.8W speakers, and an mSATA slot for adding real storage beyond the bundled microSD. Video decode covers H.265 up to 4K60, and graphics support runs to OpenGL ES 3.1 and Vulkan 1.2.

The operating temperature range is 0-40C, which is a reasonable envelope for a passively cooled aluminum enclosure meant to sit on a desk rather than in a plant room.

Availability and the Catch

Mouser has both colorways listed at $267.19. EDATEC notes limited overseas availability during the early phase of its global rollout, so supply outside its home market may be thin for a while. That is worth factoring in before you plan a fleet of them.

For anyone following mini PC and single board computer coverage, the more interesting signal here is the category itself. Purpose-built agent appliances are starting to appear as a distinct product class, and they are arriving at Raspberry Pi prices rather than workstation prices.
