Xbox Mythic Achievements are the new badge of honor for completionists. Announced on Xbox Wire on September 29, 2026, the feature awards Mythic status when you unlock every original achievement in a game, and it is available now to Xbox Insiders. Xbox describes it as one of its most player-requested features.

  • Mythic status requires every original achievement in a game; achievements added later through DLC or updates are not required.
  • Once earned, Mythic status is permanent.
  • It applies retroactively, including to Xbox 360 games you have already completed.
  • A new Gaming tab on your profile shows achievements, milestones and progress toward Mythic.

What are Xbox Mythic Achievements?

Achievement hunters have long had an awkward problem: you finish a game at 100 percent, then a DLC pack lands and your completion quietly drops. Mythic Achievements solve that by defining completion as every original achievement. Anything added by an add-on or update is labeled "add-on" and does not count against you, and once a game reaches Mythic status it stays there.

It is a small rule change with a big effect on how completion feels. Your old victories stay victories.

Do old Xbox 360 games count toward Mythic?

Yes. Xbox says Mythic status is applied retroactively to eligible games you have already finished, including Xbox 360 titles. If you ground out every achievement in a classic years ago, it should show up with its Mythic frame without any extra work.

What's in the new Gaming tab?

The profile's new Gaming tab is where it all comes together:

  • Achievement history, with a heroic frame marking Mythic games
  • Gamerscore milestone badges and a view of your next milestone
  • Progress bars showing how close you are to Mythic in each game
  • Friends' Gaming tabs, so you can see what your friends have mastered
  • Add-on tags that separate DLC achievements from the originals

It turns a long list of pop-ups into something closer to a trophy room, and the friends view adds a friendly bit of competition. It is a nice companion to other recent profile upgrades, like the 15-character gamertags from the July update, and to the wider achievement culture that projects like RetroAchievements keep alive.

When will Mythic Achievements reach everyone?

For now, Mythic Achievements are available to Xbox Insiders only. Xbox has not given a date for the wider rollout or said which Insider rings are included first, so if you are not in the program, keep an eye on your console updates in the coming months. Insider previews typically exist to collect feedback before a broader release.

Our take

Xbox's achievement system helped define modern gaming, and Mythic status is a thoughtful refresh that respects the time players have already invested. Retroactive credit back to the Xbox 360 era is the detail that will win people over. For more console features and updates, visit our gaming coverage.
