Samsung Q3 2026 Profit: How AI Memory Drove a ₩107T Record

Samsung Electronics just posted a quarter that belongs in the record books. In preliminary guidance released on October 8, 2026, the company estimated third-quarter 2026 operating profit of about ₩107.4 trillion (roughly $80 billion) on sales of about ₩195 trillion. According to The Korea Herald, that makes Samsung the first technology company ever to clear ₩100 trillion in quarterly operating profit, and the engine behind it is the AI memory boom.

  • Operating profit: about ₩107.4 trillion, the midpoint of a ₩107.3 to ₩107.5 trillion range, up 782.5% year on year per The Korea Herald.
  • Sales: about ₩195 trillion, the midpoint of a ₩194 to ₩196 trillion range, up 126.6% year on year.
  • Streak: the fourth consecutive record quarter for operating profit.
  • Next: full Q3 results, including division breakdowns, are due later in October.

Why Did Samsung's Profit Jump So Much?

Samsung's guidance doesn't break out divisions, but the story is memory. Demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM), the stacked DRAM that feeds AI accelerators, has been red-hot, and conventional memory prices climbed sharply in a tight market. The Korea Herald cites securities estimates of roughly 15% DRAM and 18% NAND price increases in the quarter, with analysts estimating the memory business alone earned around ₩110 trillion in operating profit.

It's the same AI infrastructure wave we've been tracking across the supply chain, from TSMC's record Q3 revenue to Micron's $54.2 billion fiscal Q4. Memory is now one of the most important bottlenecks in AI computing, and Samsung is one of the biggest suppliers on the planet.

How Does ₩107 Trillion Compare?

For scale, The Korea Herald notes that Saudi Aramco is the only other company to have crossed ₩100 trillion in a single quarter, and that Nvidia's operating profit for its July quarter was $63.7 billion. Samsung's quarter-on-quarter climb was also big: operating profit in Q2 was about ₩89.4 trillion, so the new figure works out to roughly 20% higher in just three months.

Did Samsung Beat Expectations?

Here's where it pays to read carefully. Analyst forecasts were all over the map heading into the release. Some estimates sat a little below ₩107.4 trillion and others a little above, and a stronger Korean won trimmed the value of dollar-denominated chip sales, which led several analysts to lower their numbers beforehand. So the cleanest way to describe it is a record quarter that landed within the range of expectations, rather than a blowout surprise. Samsung shares closed down 1.86% at ₩263,500 on the day, on a broadly softer session for the Kospi.

What to Watch in the Full Q3 Report

Samsung will publish full results later this month. Key things to look for:

  • HBM progress: how much of memory profit is coming from AI-specific products.
  • Pricing outlook: whether DRAM and NAND prices keep rising into 2027.
  • Device businesses: analysts expect higher memory costs weighed on mobile, TV and appliance margins, so watch for plans to manage that.

Analysts are leaning optimistic on the longer run: Meritz Securities raised its 2027 operating profit forecast for Samsung to ₩632 trillion from ₩562 trillion, according to The Korea Herald. Whatever the next quarter brings, Q3 2026 shows just how much value the AI build-out is creating for the companies that make its memory. This is market news, not investment advice.
