Resident Evil Requiem Arrives February 27 With a Dual-Protagonist System That Nails Both Horror and Action
Capcom's latest survival horror entry lets you switch between classic first-person horror and RE4-style action, and early previews are glowing.
Capcom is about to release what might be the most ambitious Resident Evil game ever made, and early hands-on impressions are calling it a greatest hits compilation of everything the franchise does best.
Resident Evil Requiem launches on February 27 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam, Epic Games Store, and GeForce NOW — making it one of the first major third-party titles on Nintendo's new console.
Two Games in One
The headline feature is a dual protagonist system. Players switch between FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft and returning series veteran Leon S. Kennedy, and each character plays completely differently.
Grace's missions are classic survival horror — playable in first-person or third-person, reminiscent of RE7 and RE2 Remake. Her sections emphasize evasion, exploration, and tension. Leon's missions, meanwhile, are combat-driven action in the style of Resident Evil 4 (2023), with the firepower and intensity fans of that game loved.
A new blood synthesis crafting system lets players collect ichor from defeated zombies to craft items using an upgradable collection tube, adding a resource management layer that ties both playstyles together.
The Story
Grace is investigating her mother's death — her mother being Alyssa Ashcroft from the classic Resident Evil Outbreak series, a deep cut that longtime fans will appreciate. Leon is investigating the remains of Raccoon City. The primary antagonist is Victor Gideon.
Early Impressions
Hands-on previews from multiple outlets have been overwhelmingly positive. Reviewers are praising the sharp divide between action and horror, calling it the best of both worlds. Capcom also released a live-action trailer starring Maika Monroe, and a fourth gameplay trailer debuted at Sony's State of Play on February 12.
The Deluxe Edition early access begins February 25. If you are a Resident Evil fan, this one looks like a must-play.
