OKXICE Tokenized Stocks: How 24/7 Trading Would Work
OKXICE filed to offer 24/7 trading of 60+ tokenized US stocks on X Layer under the SEC exemption, with soulbound-token wallets. Here is the design.
OKXICE, a joint venture of the crypto exchange OKX and NYSE owner Intercontinental Exchange, filed a notice on October 4, 2026 to offer around-the-clock trading of more than 60 tokenized U.S. stocks, according to Decrypt. The filing was made public on October 5 and relies on the SEC's innovation exemption for tokenized stocks. No launch date has been given, so this is a plan, not yet a live market.
- Who: OKXICE LLC, a 50-50 venture of OKX and Intercontinental Exchange.
- What: 24/7 trading of more than 60 U.S.-listed stocks in tokenized form, including names like Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, Microsoft and Coinbase.
- How: X Layer, OKX's layer-2 network, using permissioned Uniswap v4 pools, paired with USDC, USDG or USDT.
- Gate: only wallets holding a non-transferable soulbound token can trade.
What Is the SEC Innovation Exemption?
The exemption took effect on September 17, 2026, according to Decrypt, and lets approved venues trade tokenized versions of national market system stocks under specified conditions. Companies that want to use it must file notices, and issuers can object within a 30-day window. OKXICE's filing is one of the first to appear under that process.
How Would OKXICE Tokenized Stocks Work?
Decrypt reports that an unnamed third party, called the Tokenizer, would hold the underlying shares one-for-one through a registered broker-dealer, with token holders keeping dividend and voting rights. Traders would swap tokens against stablecoins in permissioned liquidity pools. That means the usual 24/7 convenience of crypto with real shares sitting behind each token.
Why Do Soulbound Tokens Gate Trading?
A soulbound token cannot be transferred between wallets. OKXICE would issue one only after identity, anti-money-laundering and sanctions checks by OKX's U.S. entity. Wallets without the token could not trade or supply liquidity. For regulators, that ties activity to verified participants even though the trading itself happens on a public blockchain.
Which Companies Are Not Included?
Cerebras Systems lodged a notice of issuer objection, so its shares will not trade on the venue, per Decrypt. That shows the exemption process lets issuers decide whether their stock is tokenized, which is an important safeguard.
What Does This Mean for Tokenization?
It is one more sign that traditional exchanges and crypto platforms are converging on tokenized equities. We have followed this theme in our reports on NYSE and Blockchain.com's 24/7 tokenized trading plan, ICE's investment in OKX and Nasdaq's stake in Kraken's tokenized plan. Details such as fees, launch timing and eligible regions have not been disclosed, so wait for the final venue rules before drawing conclusions. This is not investment advice.
