Picture buying a slice of an S&P 500 ETF at 2 a.m. on a Sunday from the same app where you keep your bitcoin. That is the vision behind a new deal between NYSE Group and Blockchain.com. On September 23, 2026, the two companies announced a memorandum of understanding to distribute tokenized US exchange-listed stocks and ETFs to Blockchain.com's customers through NYSE's planned digital trading venue, aiming for global trading 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

  • The deal: a memorandum of understanding (MOU) covering distribution of tokenized US stocks and ETFs
  • The venue: NYSE's planned digital alternative trading system (ATS), which still needs regulatory approval
  • The reach: Blockchain.com reports more than 44 million confirmed accounts and over 95 million supported wallets
  • Data swap: ICE Data Services will distribute Blockchain.com crypto data, and Blockchain.com will add NYSE and ICE market data to its app

What Is Tokenized Stock Trading?

A tokenized stock is a blockchain-based representation of a real share. The appeal is simple: tokens can move and settle around the clock, work across borders, and plug into the same wallets people already use for crypto. The NYSE model ties those tokens to US exchange-listed securities through a regulated venue, and that regulated link is what makes this more than a crypto side project.

NYSE's parent, Intercontinental Exchange, has been laying the groundwork for months. In August, ICE picked tZERO to help build tokenized stock rails for NYSE, and today's deal adds a large, crypto-native distribution partner on the customer side.

How Would the NYSE and Blockchain.com Deal Work?

Think of it as a two-way bridge. NYSE brings the listed securities, the trading venue and the market data. Blockchain.com brings a global customer base and the wallet infrastructure its users already rely on. Under the MOU:

  • Distribution: Blockchain.com plans to offer tokenized US stocks and ETFs from NYSE's venue once it launches
  • Market data in the app: Blockchain.com will integrate NYSE and ICE data feeds so users see real-time stock information
  • Crypto data flows back: ICE Data Services will distribute Blockchain.com's crypto market data to institutional clients

Blockchain.com CEO Peter Smith framed tokenized stocks as a way to open worldwide investment access without the limits of geography or a local broker. NYSE Group President Lynn Martin said the future of capital markets combines the trust of traditional finance with the innovation and accessibility of digital assets.

What Is Still Pending?

Plenty, and that is normal at the MOU stage. NYSE's tokenized securities venue still requires regulatory approval, and the companies have not announced a launch date or financial terms. Availability for any given user will also depend on the rules in the country where they live.

Why It Matters for Everyday Investors

This deal is a signal of direction. Traditional exchanges are no longer just watching crypto platforms; they are partnering with them to reach new investors. It follows Nasdaq's partnership with Kraken on a tokenized stock platform, and together these moves suggest round-the-clock access to real US equities is heading toward the mainstream.

For now, nothing changes in your brokerage account. The useful homework is learning how tokenized shares differ from traditional ones, including custody, shareholder rights and trading hours, before products go live. Blockchain.com says it has processed more than $1.1 trillion in crypto transactions, so the plumbing on its side is well tested. We will keep tracking launch details in our stock trading coverage.
