No Rest for the Wicked 1.0: 24 Classes and an Open Beta Date
No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 replaces attributes with 24 weapon-based classes and 362 traits, with an open beta in December and launch in March 2027.
Moon Studios, the team behind the Ori games, just showed what it has been building for No Rest for the Wicked's full release, and it is a big rebuild. In its October 16 "Wicked Inside" showcase, the studio unveiled a new class system, six joinable factions and a new endurance mechanic. Version 1.0 is set to roughly double the game's size. If you have been waiting for this painterly action RPG to leave Early Access, the roadmap is now clear.
- New class system: attributes are gone, and the weapon you pick sets your class, with 24 classes and 362 traits according to Gematsu
- Factions: six joinable factions, each with its own questline, traits and vendors
- Open beta: December 2026, per Moon Studios' Steam posts
- Launch: PS5 and PC via Steam in March 2027, with Xbox Series and Switch 2 versions to follow
How Does the New Class System Work?
The old attribute system pushed builds toward a few set playstyles. Version 1.0 replaces it with weapon-driven classes: pick up a weapon and your class changes to match, out of 24 options. Traits can carry from one class to another. The showcase teased "synergy crafting," which combines the best parts of several classes into hybrid builds. Gematsu counts 362 traits across those 24 classes, before weapon choices widen the options even further.
Think of it as the job board from your favorite JRPG fused with Soulslike combat. Picture electrified spears raining down like arrows, or a stealth opener that ends a fight before it starts.
Factions and Cerim Cores Explained
Six factions offer new ways to see the island of Isola Sacra, with you rising from recruit to the top of the ranks. Named examples include the Severed Hand assassins, the knightly Sacrament Guard and the mysterious Unspoken. Each has a dedicated questline, unique traits and its own vendors.
Cerim Cores take over the endurance side of your build. They range from simple boosts to health, stamina and focus to exotic options like Feral, which raises attack speed, and Crimson, which grants lifesteal. There is a catch: going over your core capacity makes you take more damage from every hit. It is a classic risk-versus-reward knob for buildcrafters.
What Else Is in No Rest for the Wicked 1.0?
Moon Studios says 1.0 roughly doubles the game. It adds new zones to explore, new enemy factions and bosses, loot refinements, combat upgrades and quality-of-life improvements. It also includes optimization work so the PlayStation 5 version runs as smoothly as possible.
The studio was candid in September about moving 1.0 from October 2026 to March 2027. It said the extra time would go to performance, tuning the class system and more beta testing with the community. That December open beta is your first chance to try the new system yourself.
Founder's Pack for Early Supporters
There is a thank-you for early backers too. Moon Studios says everyone who buys the game on Steam before January 1, 2027 will receive Founder's Pack rewards. PlayStation players get their chance when pre-orders open in January 2027.
