Wii Sports turns 20 this year, and Nintendo is celebrating by taking the series back to the island where it peaked. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort launches October 22, 2026 exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 for $49.99, and early reviews suggest it is the most packed entry the series has ever had. Think Wii Sports Resort's beloved Wuhu Island, rebuilt with modern motion controls, a meaty single-player mode and online play.

  • Release: October 22, 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2, $49.99 regular price
  • Sports: 12 events, mixing Wii-era classics with Volleyball, Thumb Wrestling and a new mouse-controlled Skateboarding event
  • Solo content: three Sightseeing Tours, Island Crown CPU ladders in nine sports and 60 achievements
  • Launch events: free play sessions at Nintendo NEW YORK and Nintendo SAN FRANCISCO on October 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Which Sports Are in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort?

All 12 events take place in venues around Wuhu Island. Four are straight from the original Wii Sports: Tennis, Boxing, Golf and Bowling. Five come from Wii Sports Resort: Archery, Table Tennis, Basketball, Power Cruising and Prop Plane. Volleyball returns from 2022's Nintendo Switch Sports, and the lineup is rounded out by Thumb Wrestling and Skateboarding.

According to VGC's review, Table Tennis brings the precision fans wanted from racket sports, and Archery keeps its "one more go" pull with increasingly wild target locations that end inside a volcano. Skateboarding is the showcase for Switch 2 hardware: you hold a single Joy-Con in mouse mode, drag it back to push off and tilt it to turn. VGC found it works very well, though younger players may need a few runs to get the hang of it.

Sightseeing Tours Make Wuhu Island the Star

Nintendo is leaning into the idea that Wuhu Island is a character in its own right. Three Sightseeing Tours, launched from the Prop Plane, Skateboarding and Power Cruising menus, send you around the island in five-minute sessions to collect Spocco Photos that reveal points of interest and complete Island Missions like popping balloons and finding hibiscus flowers. VGC counted 245 Spocco Photos (105 by plane, 80 by skateboard and 60 by boat) and 128 Island Missions across the three vehicles. That is a lot of reasons to keep flying laps after the family has gone to bed.

Is There Enough Here for Solo Players?

This is where Switch Sports Resort stands out from earlier entries. Beyond the tours, Island Crown mode gives nine sports their own CPU ladders: you start at rank 20 and climb through tougher opponents until you defeat the island champion. Each sport has five achievements, for 60 total, such as rolling a strike or spare in every bowling frame. Progress unlocks outfits, face paints, emotes and gear to customize your character, and there are ranked and casual online modes for most sports when you want human competition. VGC calls it the most feature-packed game in the Wii and Switch Sports line.

Who Should Pick It Up?

If anyone in your house still talks about Wii Sports bowling night, this is an easy recommendation. The classic sports control much like they always did, so mixed-skill groups can jump in together, while the solo modes give dedicated players a long tail of goals. It slots neatly into our list of the best Nintendo Switch 2 games of 2026, alongside cozy picks like Coral Island's Switch 2 update. And if you are near New York or San Francisco on October 24, Nintendo's stores will let you try select sports and grab a giveaway while supplies last. Keep up with launches in our gaming coverage.
