Coral Island on Switch 2: What the Kids Grow Up Update Adds
Coral Island reaches Switch 2 this winter with Update 1.4, which lets children grow through 4 life stages and adds HD Rumble and fishing bobbers.
Coral Island fans, start packing the farm truck. Publisher Balor Games and developer Stairway Games announced on October 16 that the tropical farming sim is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 this winter. It arrives alongside Update 1.4, nicknamed "Kids Grow Up," which finally lets your in-game children grow beyond the toddler years. Think of it as the growth spurt the community has been asking for, landing on a new console at the same time.
- Switch 2 release: winter 2026, with the exact date to be announced closer to launch
- Update 1.4: children grow through four stages: baby, toddler, school-age and teenager
- Hobbies: kids develop interests such as music, sports, baking or gaming that shape their teen personalities
- Multiplayer: solo play or co-op with up to four players on Switch 2, with cross-play across supported platforms
What Does the Kids Grow Up Update Add?
Update 1.4 is all about family. Players who choose parenthood will watch their children move through four life stages. At school age they will be about as old as Starlet Town's current kids, such as Zoe. New cutscenes mark milestones along the way. One is inspired by Tedak Siten, a Javanese tradition many of the developers grew up with that celebrates a child's first steps onto the ground. It is a lovely touch of cultural heritage from the team behind the game.
As your kids grow, they pick up hobbies, and you can encourage music, sports, baking or gaming. Those interests carry through to their teenage personalities. Your spouse also gets new parenting dialogue, interactions and family cutscenes. Even the neighborhood kids, including familiar faces like Archie, grow into teenagers with new stories of their own.
Coral Island Switch 2 Features
The Switch 2 version brings the full Coral Island experience: farming, raising animals, befriending islanders, protecting the island's landscapes and diving down to the Merfolk Kingdom. It supports solo play or multiplayer with up to four friends, plus cross-play across supported platforms. Update 1.4 also adds controller vibration everywhere, including:
- Nintendo Switch 2: HD Rumble
- PlayStation 5: DualSense haptic feedback
- Xbox Series X and S and Xbox PC: wireless controller vibration
- Steam Deck: haptic feedback
Quality-of-Life Upgrades for Every Platform
Not on Switch 2? Update 1.4 still brings plenty of polish. The cooking menu now filters recipes by buff or by which villager likes the dish as a gift, which is a lifesaver before festival days. Fishing gets collectible bobbers you unlock through Fishing Mastery and buy at the Beach Shack. Stairway also promises lighting improvements and more quality-of-life fixes, with a full rundown on launch day.
When Does Coral Island Launch on Switch 2?
Stairway Games has only said "winter 2026" so far and will share the exact date closer to launch. Coral Island first arrived in Early Access in October 2022 and fully released on PS5, Xbox Series and PC in November 2023. That makes Switch 2 the next stop for a game that keeps growing, just like its kids.
