If you want one company that captures where investor money is flowing, BlackRock is it. The world's largest asset manager reported third-quarter 2026 results on October 14, and the headline numbers are huge even by its standards: assets under management reached about $15.5 trillion after $205 billion of net inflows in the quarter. Revenue, margins and earnings per share all climbed sharply too. Here is what stood out for investors.

  • AUM: $15.49 trillion, up 15% from $13.46 trillion a year earlier
  • Net inflows: $205 billion in the quarter and $869 billion over the last twelve months, with $135 billion into iShares ETFs
  • Revenue: $7.75 billion, up 19% year over year
  • EPS: adjusted diluted EPS of $15.93, up 38%; GAAP diluted EPS of $10.57, up 25%

How Strong Were BlackRock's Q3 2026 Earnings?

Strong across the board. The adjusted operating margin expanded to 47.8% from 44.6% a year ago, and adjusted operating income rose 27%. CEO Larry Fink highlighted 11% annualized organic base fee growth in the quarter, which is the number many analysts watch most closely because it shows growth that is not just market appreciation. BlackRock also bought back $550 million of its own stock during the quarter.

There is one wrinkle worth understanding if you compare the two EPS figures. GAAP results were affected by a noncash change in the fair value of contingent consideration tied to prior acquisitions, which BlackRock excludes from its adjusted figures. That accounting item explains most of the gap between $10.57 and $15.93. Our guide to reading an earnings report walks through GAAP versus adjusted numbers if you want a refresher.

Where Did the $205 Billion in Inflows Go?

The money came in from everywhere. Fink said net inflows arrived across every asset class, client type and region, and across both active and index strategies. According to Pulse 2.0's breakdown of the release, the quarter's mix looked like this:

  • ETFs: $135 billion into iShares, with ETF AUM ending around $6.36 trillion
  • Active strategies: about $66 billion, led by fixed income and systematic equity
  • Cash management: another $31 billion
  • By asset class: about $78.2 billion into fixed income, $52.4 billion into equities, $24.2 billion into alternatives and $7.9 billion into digital assets
  • By region (long-term flows): the Americas led with $125 billion, followed by EMEA at $31 billion and APAC at $19 billion

Why Does Aladdin Matter to BlackRock Investors?

Technology services and subscription revenue grew 14% year over year, driven by its Aladdin investment platform and multi-product solutions, and annual contract value for technology rose 12%. That recurring software-style revenue is a big part of why investors value BlackRock as more than a fund manager. Private markets are another growth engine: the firm has raised $68 billion in private markets over the last twelve months, and its AI Infrastructure Partnership made its first deployment this quarter.

What's Next for BlackRock Stock?

Fink said BlackRock is entering its seasonally strongest fourth quarter "with accelerating momentum" and a broad pipeline spanning whole-portfolio mandates, private markets, retirement and international platforms. Combined with strong numbers from peers like Morgan Stanley's record wealth quarter, Q3 is shaping up as a standout season for the asset and wealth management business. This is not investment advice, but it is a clear picture of where the money is moving. More earnings breakdowns live in our stock trading coverage.
