System Shock 2 Remaster Free on Epic: Claim It by October 8

Free games alert! The Epic Games Store's October giveaways kicked off on October 1, 2026, and the headliner is a true PC classic: System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster from Nightdive Studios. It is free to claim until October 8, and once it is in your library, it is yours to keep.

• System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is free on the Epic Games Store from October 1 to October 8, 2026.
• Buried Stars, a mystery adventure from Line Games, is free in the same window.
• Out of Sight and TerraScape follow as free games from October 8 to October 15.
• Claimed games stay in your library permanently, according to VGC.

What Is System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster?

The original System Shock 2 arrived in 1999 and blended first-person shooting with RPG character building, survival tension and a story you uncover through the environment. It became one of the most influential PC games ever made, inspiring a long line of immersive sims.

Nightdive Studios, a team known for game preservation work, rebuilt it for modern systems. VGC highlights updated presentation, widescreen support and cross-play co-op, which means you can explore its creepy starship corridors with friends. If you missed it the first time, or only know it by reputation, this is the easiest possible way in.

How Do You Claim the Free Epic Games?

Claiming takes a minute. Open the Epic Games Store app or website, sign in to your Epic account, go to the free games section on the store's home page and select System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster. Choose Get, confirm the zero-dollar checkout, and the game is added to your library. Repeat for Buried Stars. You do not have to download either game right away. As long as you claim them before the window closes on October 8, they stay yours.

What Other Games Are Free on Epic in October?

Buried Stars is this week's second freebie. VGC describes it as a mystery adventure built around a survival audition show, where trapped contestants communicate through social media. It is a very different vibe from System Shock, which makes the pair a nicely varied double bill.

Next week brings two more:

• Out of Sight, a horror puzzle adventure where you guide Sophie, a blind girl escaping a haunted mansion by sneaking, hiding and solving puzzles.
• TerraScape, a medieval city-building puzzle game about placing buildings across floating islands to grow a kingdom.

That is four free games in two weeks, spanning sci-fi, mystery, horror and cozy strategy. Remasters are having a great year. See how the Witcher 3 remaster scored at launch, and keep up with more deals and releases in our gaming section.
