SWI Group Raises EUR 800M: Where AI Data Center Cash Goes
SWI Group raised EUR 800 million from institutional investors at a EUR 6.1 billion valuation to expand AI data center capacity in Europe and the US.
SWI Group just raised EUR 800 million, and the plan for the money says a lot about where capital is heading in 2026. The Euronext Amsterdam-listed company announced the institutional capital increase on October 12, 2026, at what it calls a final valuation of EUR 6.1 billion. The stated purpose: more data center and AI compute capacity on both sides of the Atlantic.
- Raise: EUR 800 million from institutional investors, announced October 12, 2026.
- Valuation: EUR 6.1 billion, per the company.
- Ticker: SWICH on Euronext Amsterdam.
- Running total: more than EUR 1 billion of equity raised since March 2026.
What Did SWI Group Announce?
According to the company's press release, the capital increase was done through new ordinary shares issued in several series to institutional investors. After the transaction, SWI Capital Holding has 558,399,385 ordinary shares outstanding, and its free float rises to roughly 20 percent of share capital.
CoinDesk puts the raise at about $894 million in dollar terms. The release does not name the investors or a price per share, and it notes that certain investors received options tied to milestones, so some of the fine print is still to come.
Founder and CEO Max-Herve George summed up the motivation in the release: "This transaction is about keeping up to speed with the compute and data center markets."
Where Will the EUR 800 Million Go?
The company lists a handful of uses.
- Capacity: scaling data center and AI compute, including power infrastructure and compute deployments.
- Pipeline: funding development projects in Europe and the United States.
- Investments: further AI investments and larger stakes in existing holdings.
- Balance sheet and liquidity: a stronger capital base and a broader institutional shareholder list.
Think of it like a builder who has already bought the land and now needs cash for the power hookups and the machinery. In AI infrastructure, power and compute are the expensive parts, and they have to be paid for well before any customer revenue shows up.
What Is the Genesis Digital Assets Connection?
Here is the piece that makes the strategy clearer. CoinDesk reports that SWI agreed in June to buy about 40 percent of Genesis Digital Assets for $500 million, completed the deal in August with 70 percent of voting rights, and renamed the unit SWI Digital. The plan, per CoinDesk, is to convert the US and Swedish facilities for AI workloads.
That is a playbook we have seen pay off elsewhere. Sites that already have large power connections are valuable to AI tenants, and CoinDesk notes that companies with that kind of infrastructure have signed more than $70 billion in AI and high-performance computing contracts. We covered a similar dynamic when Applied Digital reported a 322 percent revenue jump and when AMD secured up to 2.5 GW of data center capacity.
What Does This Mean for Investors Watching AI Infrastructure?
A few takeaways, none of which are a buy or sell call.
First, institutional appetite for AI capacity is still strong enough to fund a raise of this size for a company most retail investors have not heard of. Second, the spending is flowing into physical assets, power and buildings, and not only into chips. Third, details matter: the release gives no megawatt figures, site names or timelines, so there is not yet a way to measure execution.
If you follow this theme, the things to watch are concrete capacity announcements, signed customer contracts, and how the company reports on the conversion of its existing sites. Those are the numbers that turn a funding headline into a business.
For now, it is another data point that the build-out behind AI is broadening across regions and exchanges. As always, do your own research before making any investment decision. More market stories are in our stock trading coverage.
