Saros Zenith Update: New Game+, Boss Rush and Auto-Fire
Saros' free Zenith update adds Eclipse Layers New Game+, an 8-boss Overlord Rush, 20 new modifiers and Slow Game Speed and Auto-fire accessibility.
Bullet ballet just got a lot more welcoming, and a lot more brutal, depending on how you like it. Housemarque's Saros: Zenith update launched October 19 as a free update for every Saros owner on PS5, and it chases two goals at once. Zenith Design Lead Abebe Tinari wrote on the PlayStation Blog that the team wanted to add replayability for veterans who have already plumbed the depths of Carcosa, and make the game more accessible so more players can discover it. Spoiler: both boxes are firmly ticked.
- Price: free for all Saros owners, available now
- New modes: Eclipse Layers New Game+ and the Overlord Rush boss-rush mode with a global leaderboard
- Modifiers: 10 new Protection Modifiers and 10 new Trial Modifiers, with 25 Trials in total
- Accessibility: Slow Game Speed, Auto-fire and Motion Sensor Aiming
What Does Slow Game Speed Do in Saros?
Housemarque is famously protective of its bullet patterns, and the studio did not want to make Saros easier by cutting projectiles. Slow Game Speed is the elegant compromise. Turn it on and the whole game slows down, giving you more time to read attack telegraphs and pick between jump, dash, shield or parry. The attacks themselves stay identical. You choose how much the game slows, and whether the setting kicks in automatically in combat or only when you toggle it during a hairy moment.
Auto-fire makes your weapon shoot automatically whenever you are aiming at a hostile. Tinari notes that some players find holding a button down for long stretches difficult, and for everyone else it frees up brain cycles for perfectly timed dashes. Reloading stays manual, so a perfect reload still takes skill. Add the new Motion Sensor Aiming and existing button remapping, and Saros now offers plenty of ways to tune the controls to your hands. It is the kind of thoughtful accessibility work we love to see, in the spirit of other recent accessibility modes.
Eclipse Layers: How New Game+ Works
Finish Saros and new nodes appear on the Armor Matrix back at Passage. They unlock Eclipse Layers, a tougher version of the game with altered rules. Before each layer, you must hit a minimum threshold of Carcosan Modifiers, and it takes several Trial Modifiers to get there. With 25 Trials to choose from, you can build a challenge that suits you, or stack combinations that synergize into something truly nasty.
Two new modifiers show the range. The Protection Modifier "Corruption Melee Enhancement" turns built-up Corruption into a single devastating melee hit, rewarding players who get up close. The Trial Modifier "Hostile Regeneration" lets larger enemies recover after being stunned unless you finish them with a melee strike.
The best bit is pure flex. In Eclipse Layers, protagonist Arjun wears a Crown and his armor glows gold, and the more Trials you take on, the bigger and more splendid that Crown becomes. It also unlocks 12 collectible Visions, murals etched by an ancient king, whose extra story text only reveals itself at higher Crown levels.
Overlord Rush: Saros Gets a Boss Rush
Overlord Rush, reached through the Primary Unit in Passage, is a training simulation where you race to defeat the game's Overlords and post times to an integrated leaderboard. The Incursion and Ascension sets each pack three Overlords and take around 10 minutes, a perfect Saros snack. Totality lines up all eight Overlords back to back for a true marathon. VGC, which awarded Saros five stars at launch, highlighted the boss rush and Auto-fire in its coverage of the update.
Is the Saros Zenith Update Worth Returning For?
Absolutely. Zenith turns one of 2026's best-reviewed action games, which we covered at its April launch, into a game that meets newcomers halfway and gives veterans a crown worth chasing. For more updates and launches, head to our gaming coverage.
