PlayStation's 85-Minute State of Play Was a Banger — God of War Trilogy Remake Headlines 30+ Reveals

Sony's biggest State of Play ever brought God of War Greek trilogy remakes, a surprise shadow drop, and over 30 game announcements.

Sony just delivered what might be the best State of Play presentation in PlayStation history, and fans are still processing everything that was announced.

The February 12 showcase ran a massive 85 minutes and featured over 30 titles across first-party and third-party games. But two announcements stole the show entirely.

God of War Greek Trilogy Remake

Santa Monica Studio officially confirmed that the original God of War trilogy — God of War (2005), God of War II (2007), and God of War III (2010) — is being fully remade for PS5. The legendary TC Carson, the original voice of Kratos, is involved in the project.

For anyone who grew up pulling off QTE combos and toppling Greek gods, this is the announcement you have been waiting for. The project is described as early in development, but even the confirmation sent the gaming community into celebration mode.

God of War: Sons of Sparta (Shadow Drop!)

In a surprise move, Santa Monica Studio partnered with Mega Cat Studios to create God of War: Sons of Sparta — a 2D action platformer telling a canon story of young Kratos training at the Agoge alongside his brother Deimos.

The best part? It was shadow-dropped — announced and made available immediately on PS5 the same day. A canon prequel you can play right now, exploring a part of Kratos' story that has never been told in-game.

The Rest of the Show

The showcase was packed beyond God of War. Highlights included a new character reveal for MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls (Storm, Wolverine, Magik, and Danger — launching August 6), a quirky new title called Octopus Darwin with an April 2 release, Dead or Alive 6 Last Round coming to PS5 on June 25, and a PC launch date for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (March 19).

Thirty-plus titles, a legendary franchise returning to its roots, and a same-day surprise release. This is how you do a showcase.
