Horror fans, mark the date. One of the most acclaimed survival horror games of all time is getting the remake treatment it deserves — and you can play a slice of it right now.

A Full Remake, Not a Remaster

Koei Tecmo released a free demo today for Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake on PS5, Xbox Series X and S, Switch 2, and PC. This is not a resolution bump or a texture refresh. The full game, launching March 12, is a ground-up rebuild with redesigned gameplay systems, modernized controls, new explorable locations, and additional story content including brand-new endings.

The Hold-Hands Mechanic

A standout addition is the new hold-hands mechanic that deepens the emotional bond between twin sisters Mio and Mayu. The Camera Obscura — the franchise's iconic ghost-fighting tool — has also been reworked to feel more responsive and cinematic.

A Silent Hill f Crossover

In a surprise twist, Koei Tecmo announced a collaboration with Konami's upcoming Silent Hill f, featuring crossover costume DLC. It is a rare and exciting partnership between two legendary Japanese horror franchises.

The demo is available now across all launch platforms. Horror fans owe it to themselves to give this one a look.
